Was moving a pallet of cement bags this morning and halfway through the lift the handle on our jack just gave way, the pin sheared right off and the whole thing dropped. Nobody got hurt thankfully but it was close, the pallet landed about a foot from my colleague's foot. The unit is probably four or five years old and has been abused pretty hard honestly, but the pump still works fine which makes me reluctant to just throw it away. Can a handle be replaced on these things or does it mean the whole jack is done? Also now I am worried the same thing could happen again on another unit without warning, so is there a way to check for wear before it fails. We have three of these in the yard and I am thinking we should inspect all of them properly. Would rather repair than replace if the cost makes sense, but not at the risk of another near miss. Any advice on where the weak points are on a hydraulic pallet jack would be appreciated.
